Spaceballs: The Book

Growing up can be a challenging experience, especially for Tommy, who has to navigate the complexities of being dyslexic with three older brothers, two of whom constantly torment him, and a father who is a tough cop from the 50s. Despite the obstacles he faces, Tommy learns early on how to cope with his brothers and his father, but his learning disability creates additional difficulties. He struggles with phonics and is often confused by common sayings, such as "Cat got your tongue?", which he has never actually seen happen.

Tommy's father is adamant about his sons following his instructions, often telling them that they could get by in the world just fine if they would simply do what he says. Meanwhile, Tommy's brother Ronny is always jotting down notes and scribbling furiously whenever someone says something he could potentially use in one of his songs.

When Tommy's family moves to Sanford, Florida, and he starts a new school, he is presented with an opportunity to start fresh. One particular teacher makes a significant impact on his life by introducing him to the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Segregation, corporal punishment, and religion are all part of Tommy's upbringing, but the lessons he learns from Chickens, Pigs, and an Egg Sucking Dog prove to be invaluable.

Throughout his journey, Tommy is determined to find the answer to the question "Just how dumb is stupid?". As he navigates the challenges of growing up, he promises that by the time the reader finishes Ronny's Songs, they will have a better understanding of what love is, and will care, respect, and know it deeply.
